Welcome

Lita

Sometimes I wish I were a photographer
I would take pictures of everything
The beauty on the streets
The beauty in the sky
The beauty that nature has to offer
And
The beauty in your eyes
When you declared how much you loved all of me
All the beauty a picture has to offer
But
A picture frozen in time
Will never feel
As real as touching you feels

Still I wish I were a photographerā€¦

  1. You’ve certainly got the poetry down. Becoming a “photographer” takes more than buying a fancy camera and photographing anything and everything. It takes practice, and from what I se here you’re well on your way.

      1. You are more than welcome. We were all newbies once. And since I only just bought my first camera back in 2008, I’m not that far from still being a newbie myself. šŸ˜‰

          1. I think that may be true. I’ve always had an artistic side. When I was in school I practically lived in the art room. It still kind of surprises me though that it took so long to discover photography. And that was purely by accident.

          2. Now you have me intrigued how you discovered photography. I would like to know.
Did you write a post so I can read it? šŸ™‚

          3. I may have, but the short version is this.

When my uncle passed away about 10 years ago he left me a small telescope. I thought it was very very cool to see the moon, some of the constellations, etc. So I bought a bigger telescope šŸ™‚

I then thought, after seeing the photos in astronomy magazines that were taken with regular dslr cameras, “I gotta get me a camera and try this!”

I also used to be an avid hunter, birds, waterfowl, small game, so along with my first Canon 40D I bought the 100-400L. I started wandering the woods with my camera and loved it! I realized I got the same satisfaction being out with my camera as I did with my dog and a shotgun. So I soon sold all of my guns, bought more photography gear, and here I am.

It took me a while to set up my Facebook fan page, website, this blog, because it took me a while to find someone I could actually believe when they said my photos were good, “have you thought about selling them?”

There was some part of me that realized I had an eye for photography, but I was smart enough not to put too much weight on what family and friends said. Finally I was able to find someone who didn’t give a crap about hurting my feelings to give me an honest critique of my work. She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me and now she’s a great friend and does all of my custom framing for me.

And you know what, I sold that telescope without ever once having taken a picture through it!

And funny thing #2. If someone had told me back in early 2008 before I even owned a camera that I’d have a website, bolg, and a fan page, I would have thought them insane. Add to that I’m paid to write photography articles for another blog is even more crazy. I chose not to go to college because I hated English class so much. And now I write, and people have told me that some of the stuff, a few have called it poetry, that I write with some of the photos I share on my blog is actually pretty good. All this from the straight from high school, into the Air Force, into a job as an auto mechanic, guy. šŸ˜€

          4. WOW (in the best sense possible)
Thank you so much for writing all of this down for me. I enjoyed reading your short version (wink) of how you came to be a photographer.
Maybe one day I will hear the long version. šŸ˜€ I’ll be armed and ready with coffee or a drink. lol

Seriously, I am in awe of how every step led you to where you are now. Some people would say that you were guided into your destiny or some shit like that. šŸ˜‰

You are going to laugh when you hear this but I so want to buy a telescope to look at the moon and take better pictures than the ones I’ve taken. You left me with my mouth open when you just told me that you never took a picture with it. šŸ™‚

Isn’t it funny how sometimes life takes you to unexpected places? It’s so wonderful that your life sounds so fulfilling and great.

I have more to say but for now I’ll stop here.. for now. šŸ™‚

Thank you again for taking the time to indulge my curiosity. šŸ™‚ It is very kind of you.

          5. No problem, that was nothing. I could babble on and on and on… If I ever bump into you out in the field somewhere, prepare to have me talk your ear off. šŸ™‚
